Uncharted Waters

Blaise Rooney

Our revolutionary innovations in pediatric heart surgery have saved thousands of infants and children in the past three decades. Yet, as these children have grown, the first generations to survive complex congenital heart conditions have encountered physical, neurological, psychological and social issues we couldn’t have anticipated. Today, through comprehensive longitudinal efforts to study their experiences, the U-M Congenital Heart Center’s multidisciplinary team is identifying patterns and implementing early interventions so that valiant young heart patients like Blaise Rooney, is pictured above, can thrive throughout their lives.
