Jim is the owner of Danto Investment Company, President of the Michigan Design Center, and former President of the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA). He and his late father Marvin founded DCOTA in 1982 in Florida. They grew it to become the largest freestanding design center in the country and sold it in 2005. Jim is also the President of the Marvin and Betty Danto Family Foundation, serves on the Henry Ford Health System Foundation Board, and holds an M.A. in Mechanical Engineering from U of M.
Sandy is currently the 2014 Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit Campaign & Community Development Chair. She holds an M.A. in Counseling from Oakland University, is a past president of Jewish Family Service of Detroit, a national board member of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, serves on the board of directors of Hebrew Free Loan, chairs the Keane Community Crisis Fund, is a trustee of the Jewish Women’s Foundation, and an advisory board member of Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network, and the Program for Holocaust Survivors & Families.
Jim’s father Marvin was a grateful patient of the UMHS Cardiovascular Center and Kim Eagle, M.D. The Center’s 100+ seat auditorium was named in his and wife Betty’s honor. Jim continues a personal philanthropic relationship with UMHS, supporting the Taubman Medical Research Institute, the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center, and the Danto Cardiovascular Center Education Fund. He also guides the family Foundation’s continued contributions. The couple resides in Bloomfield Hills.
