C.S. Mott Children's Hospital Ranked Among Nation's Best

C.S. Mott Children's Hospital

The University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital was once again named among the top children’s hospitals in the United States, according to the 2017-18 U.S. News & World Report Best Children’s Hospital rankings, which were released June 27.

The rankings highlight the top 50 medical centers in each of the following pediatric specialties:

  • Cancer
  • Nephrology
  • Cardiology and heart surgery
  • Neurology and neurosurgery
  • Diabetes and endocrinology
  • Orthopaedics
  • Neonatology
  • Pulmonology
  • Gastroenterology and gastrointestinal surgery
  • Urology

C.S. Mott is one of just 82 hospitals nationwide ranked in at least one specialty and one of only 23 to be ranked in all 10 areas. It is also the only hospital in Michigan to be ranked in all 10 pediatric specialties, holding the No. 1 ranking in the state for nine of the 10 rated categories.

C.S. Mott’s highest rating is in cardiology and heart surgery, where it is tied for third in the nation. The Congenital Heart Center at C.S. Mott is an international referral center for children with complex congenital heart problems and is one of the largest congenital heart programs in the United States.

“These rankings reflect the exemplary care provided by our doctors, nurses and staff every day to ensure the best possible outcomes for every child who comes through our doors,” says Valerie Opipari, M.D., Ravitz Foundation Professor and chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases.

“We are committed to the highest quality care, cutting-edge research, and innovative treatment and services to help children fighting rare and life-threatening diseases.”

Since 2007, U.S. News & World Report has released its Best Children’s Hospitals rankings to help families of children with rare or life-threatening illnesses find the best medical care available. The rankings are based on data gathered from clinical surveys of approximately 200 hospitals and a reputational survey of roughly 11,000 pediatric specialists.
