A small pile of cash, intended to be the prize for a class competition, transformed into something substantial. The University of Michigan Ross School of Business Weekend MBA Class of 2016 took a $62 winning and turned it into $46,000.
The MBA students channeled their entrepreneurial spirit and passion for charity to launch the Give 1 Back campaign. Through this initiative, the class agreed to annually donate 1 percent of their income to charitable causes. For their inaugural year, they took their initial $62 and multiplied it by launching a crowdfunding component. Over a period of three weeks, the students matched all donations dollar-for-dollar up to $15,000.
The Class of 2016 selected the Charles Woodson Clinical Research Initiative at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital as their charity of choice. After surpassing their initial $30,000 goal, they will soon present a check to the Woodson Initiative.
